Flexible working hours – A curse to an employer?
I am a woman, a software engineer, looking for a job (like any other woman). Well, I am not merely looking for a job; I’m looking for a career in IT. Unfortunately I am denied of having it. Why am I being denied? Is it because of family pressure? No, my husband is very encouraging and supportive. Is it because I am dumb witted? No, I am quite intelligent. In fact I have over 4 years of IT experience coupled with excellent academic background. They why? Why am I being denied a career of successful IT professional? The reason: I am a MOTHER. So? So I want to work between 8 am and 4 pm. Come on I need flexible working hours. Ah-ah there lies my crunch. You see I get lots of calls from IT recruiters, also known as “consultants”. A typical scenario is: I get a call from a consultant. Then he (or she) runs through my CV, asks me about my experience and skill sets and mentions the type of job offer he has. So far so good. The seminal moment of our conversation comes when I t
